Announcing South Georgian Bay’s 2017 ExC!te Experience Pitch Competition!

In 2016 Pitawanakwat, a Georgian College student, was the first-place winner in the exC!te Experience competition offered through Georgian’s Henry Bernick Entrepreneurship Centre (HBEC) and The Small Business Enterprise Centre (SBEC). Brandon Pitawanakwat’s dream was to build a restaurant in Collingwood – ‘the Crowned Eagle’ that would specialize in Aboriginal fine food.

This entrepreneurship activity allows participants to pitch their real-world business ideas to a panel of judges who offer not only prizes but also expert constructive advice on the entrant’s business plans.
This year, between submission of applications and the grand finale ‘Pitch’ Competition to be held on May 26, 2017 (hosted by the Creative Space in Collingwood), are two events designed to teach and prepare the applicants not only for how to pitch their business at a competition, but how to pitch it to a future investor, customer, etc.
On April 26, 2017 A 2-hour Business Model Canvas Workshop & Value Proposition Workshop will work through answering questions about each person’s business idea and help them develop their own business model canvas. This is the first step in planning a successful business. It’s an opportunity to organise the vision and create a visual model of how they hope their business will look.

This will be followed by the Pitch Prep Workshop (mandatory for the 9 finalists) which features 25-30 attendees who can participate whether they are just looking to hone their skills in presenting their business in a more compelling, concise way – or participating in the competition.

This six hour workshop will take each person through a winning slide deck, help them to work through their unique value proposition in a hands-on session with feedback from the MaRS facilitator and to ensure that if whether they are pitching to investors or potential customers, they say the right things in the right order.
“Taking part in the exC!te experience through HBEC gave me an opportunity that doesn’t arise very often. I encourage all my friends and classmates at Georgian to participate in it,” said one previous participant. “It’s not about the prize but more about the experience. The benefit was having influential people (panelist and judges) see me and hear my dream. My business plan is developed and I am actively seeking financing and the ‘right’ location.”
