pitch their business ideas for a $2,500 cash prize and to receive feedback from a panel
of business experts. On May 26th, 10 entrepreneurs convened at The Creative Space
on Hurontario Street to present to a panel of 7 judges. The businesses presented
ranged from food, to theatre, to health and wellness, to consumer products. All of the
entrepreneurs attended a pitch preparation workshop prior to the event to hone their
skills and to ensure a compelling pitch. Partners making the event possible included,
Centre for Business and Economic Development, Switch Video, Town of Collingwood,
South Georgian Bay Enterprise Centre and The Creative Space.
2017 exC!te Experience winners announced for South Georgian Bay
Sara Bentham of Georgian College said, “Initially the exC!te Experience intended to
award $2,500 to the 1st place presenter. However, the competition was of such high
quality and the judge’s impressions were so favourable that the Henry Bernick
Entrepreneurship Centre elected to name a first place winner for the $2,500 prize and
two runners-up each earning $1,000 to further their business initiatives. This crop of
South Georgian Bay entrepreneurs ranked amongst the best we’ve seen over more
than a dozen similar competitions held across Central Ontario in the past 3 years”.
“Having the Excite Pitch Competition come to Collingwood for the first time this year
highlights the energizing environment that entrepreneurs have here in Collingwood,”
added Martin Rydlo, Director of Marketing and Business Development for the Town of
Collingwood and part of the Business Development Centre supporting this competition.
Other supporters of this project include the Small Business Enterprise Centre, the
Centre for Business and Economic Development, Switch Video, Sobeys and 97.7 The
Organizers hope to repeat the exC!te Experience again in 2018.
